Make sure that you are always provided with a Good Faith Estimate when you receive your package from your loan officer in the mail and make sure that they are able to tell you which bank they are funding your loan through.

Your loan officer should go over ALL details of the loan products and options BEFORE you get to the signing table. You definitely want to be aware of everything before it's too late.

Use a loan officer that can offer you various loan products and will do their homework to shop around and find you the best deal that you qualify for.

Make sure you are pre-approved through a bank before you begin looking at houses.

Use a loan officer that you can trust and one that will keep you informed throughout the entire loan process.

Your loan officer should know what your goals are with your refinance. Did they ask you how long you plan to stay in the house? Do you want cash out? Are you looking for an ARM or a fixed rate? These are all very important questions.

Your loan officer needs to take a complete application. Did they ask what your income is? How long you've been employed? Current and previous addresses? If you've had a BK or Foreclosure in the last 7 years? If you weren't asked all of these questions you need to question your loan officer.

Borrowers should always try to get income documents to their loan officer in a timely fashion to expedite the closing of their loan.

Shop around for other loan officers if you don't feel like you are receiving the utmost customer service you deserve.

Do you know how the loan process works? Did your loan officer explain all the details to you? If not, they aren't doing their job.

Your loan officer should always let you know what documentation they need from you upfront so that you don't have to do a lot of leg work.

Always know what is on your credit--this is the basis of what you will be approved for with a loan.

Underestimate the value of your home rather than overestimate it---it's always better to be safe than sorry.

If the loan sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

A good loan officer will strongly advise you not to overextend yourself financially just to get a house that you cannot really afford, although at the time you will think he/she is your worst enemy.
